Talk Notes: Fulfilled Prophecies that Encourage – May 31, 2015

Talk Notes is a summary of our weekly Bible Talks held at 7pm on Sunday Nights.

Fulfilled Prophecies that Encourage

Did you know that about 1/3 of the bible is actually prophecy? The Bible says that prophecy serves to encourage us and at our Sunday night Bible talk we looked at several prophecies that were fulfilled as well as some that we hope soon will be fullfilled.
Looking for encouragement from the word of God? Our Lecture on May 31st took a look at several Bible Prophecies that God has placed in His word to encourage us.

Bible Prophecy Inspired by God
The Bible tells us in passages like 2 Peter 2:19-21 that prophecies aren’t subjective, but rather have been inspired by God and have a clear and definite message.

God Reveals his plans to us using Prophecy

God promises that He doesn’t act in the world without telling us why (Amos 3:7, Dan 2:28, Rev 1:1). He wants His servants to understand what He’s doing in the world and why.

The value of Fulfilled Prophecies

As you can guess, the knowledge that God is working in the world around us offers great encouragement.

• It establishes God’s existance (Isaiah 44:-8)
• It establishes the Bible as an inspired book (Deuteronomy 18:21,22)
• It demonstrates that God is at work in the world (Daniel 2:21,37,38; 4:27)
• It shows us where we are in God’s timeline (Joel 3:1,2)
• It build belief & trust in the Bible (John 14:29)
• It Provides hope (John 14:29; Acts 3:18-21), and
• It can motivate us the change our lives (Acts 3:18-24)

Fulfilled Prophecies

Here are a few Bible Prophecies that we have seen fulfilled already:

• Nebuchadnezzar’s Image shows the major world empires and their successive dominance of the world until the establishment of the Kingdom of God on the earth (Daniel 2)
• Cyrus (Isaiah 44 & 45; Ezra 1:1-3)
• Babylon’s Destruction. Did you know that for many years critics of the Bible didn’t even believe that there had been a nation in history called Babylon, let alone that it had been destroyed as God had said? (Jeremiah 25:12, Isaiah 13)
• The destruction of the nation of Tyre by Babylon and later by Alexander the Great (Ezekiel 26)
• Many Old Testament Prophecies of Jesus Christ (such as Luke 24:44)
• The Jews history as witness to God’s existence (Isaiah 43:9-12; Deuteronomy 28:36,37,64; Numbers 23:9; Ezekiel 20:32; Jeremiah 31:35, 36; 30:10,11; Joel 3:1,2; Ezekiel 36:24* and many more) *A prophecy of the Jew’s return to the land of Israel, something that started to be fulfilled in 1948!

Current Events that show God is in control

If God is in control, then we should expect to see evidence that He is working in the world today. That’s exactly what we see, from Israel’s existence in the land (Ezekiel 36) to the alignment of the nations according to God’s plan (Ezekiel 38).
We ended with a look at Daniel 2:44 that shows us what’s next: the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of God’s Kingdom on the earth.
